In early May 2023, an emu was spotted crossing I-74, but was able to evade capture.It was spotted a couple weeks later, prompting SP’s Mara Thacker to pen this love letter to the emu. In July of this year, the emu — a lady emu — was captured and returned to her owner in Vermillion County.

Elm City Urbana to open Saturday - Smile Politely

The new café will serve Zambian handpies by Stango Cuisine, BakeLab pastries, Rick’s Bakery baked goods, and Beelzebunz bagels from Springfield. Additionally, bags of Elm City’s roasted coffee will be available for sale at the register.
