Catholic bishops sued the Trump administration on Tuesday over its abrupt halt to funding of refugee resettlement, calling the action unlawful and harmful to newly arrived refugees and to the nation’s largest private resettlement program.

President Trump is once again facing opposition from the Catholic Church as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops filed a news lawsuit this week.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Tuesday evening for withholding millions of dollars of funding approved by Congress that assist in USCCB’s mission of providing relief and relocation to asylum refugees.

The Trump administration said in a court filing late Tuesday night that it is not disbursing funds for thousands of foreign aid contracts and grants despite a federal judge's order last week to lift a widespread freeze on foreign aid funding.

A coalition of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) contractors and nonprofits who claim President Trump’s executive order to freeze foreign aid could irreparably harm their operations have asked a federal judge to hold the Trump administration in civil contempt.

The Trump administration has halted U.S. foreign aid through the State Department and USAID to reassess its alignment with national interests. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also initiated a review to ensure aid programs reflect the “America First” agenda.
