India successfully launched into orbit on Wednesday a new navigation satellite aboard a home-grown rocket, strengthening its independent satellite positioning system at a time when space-based technologies are becoming increasingly critical.

India just launched its first mission of 2025. The Indian Space Research Organisation 's (ISRO) Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) lifted off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre on schedule today at 7:53 p.m. EST (0053 GMT and 6:23 a.m. local time on Jan. 29).

The GSLV-F15 is part of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle program and will deploy the NVS-02 satellite into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

This launch by ISRO updated the satellite constellation of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS), with a total of 7 satellites which will be up in space. With the 100th launch, India will have 5 out of the 7 in space.
