A fast-moving storm system is rapidly moving through the Northeast, bringing a combination of snow, wind and the risk of snow squalls, particularly across the interior and portions of New England.

The Upper Peninsula will get the brunt of a clipper system sweeping across Michigan. It is expected to make a swift exit on Thursday.

A clipper storm, as defined by the National Weather Service, is a fast-moving storm that drops into the U.S. over the Great Lakes from Alberta, Canada. As of 4:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Dave Dombek, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather, revealed that snow is already falling upstate and would continue to do so through Wednesday evening.

Much of New England saw the first “warm” day on Sunday after a brief cold snap and nearly a week of below average temperatures. The work week ahead will start with temperatures staying at or slightly above average with two weak storm systems passing through New England starting Tuesday, bringing some light snow showers.

The snow squalls were strong enough to prompt snow squall warnings across much of Central New York between 5:00am and 6:00am. Visibilities were reduced to a complete whiteout at times, instability was strong enough to produce thundersnow to the north and west of Utica,
