Over 2,000 federal, state and local law enforcement officers are on the ground in New Orleans to ensure massive crowds for Sunday's Super Bowl are safe.

Super Bowl host New Orleans is no stranger to thousands of out-of-town revelers descending upon the city, and authorities there did not balk when asked if they would be greasing their poles. They pointed out that an annual pole-greasing party hosted by a hotel in the French Quarter is how the city kicks off Mardi Gras.

New Orleans Police are investigating after a bomb scare in the French Quarter. Detectives said it happened just before 2:00 a.m. Saturday morning near Bourbon and Toulouse Street. Officers responded to the location after someone called stating they were going to activate an explosive device at the location.

Despite heightened security measures in the French Quarter for Super Bowl week, Louisiana officials say legally carried firearms will still be allowed in the designated safety zone, despite ongoing concerns from city leaders.

Approximately 2,000 law enforcement officers will be present for the Super Bowl, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick told reporters Wednesday. No vehicle traffic will be allowed on the Bourbon Street, and the city will block intersections leading to the most popular areas, Kirkpatrick said.

Patrons of the popular New Orleans entertainment district will be subject to search and seizures but legally owned firearms are permitted.

People will see an increased police presence in the busiest section of the French Quarter through at least the day after the Super Bowl. Super Bowl fans have arrived in New Orleans ahead of the big game on Sunday.
