Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom are also part of the first-team squad at Chelsea, who loaned out Sanchez’s predecessor as No1, Petrovic, to sister club Strasbourg for the season last summer along with the likes of Caleb Wiley and Andrey Santos after he had made 31 appearances under former boss Mauricio Pochettino last term.

The 29-year-old is also France's first-choice goalkeeper, having replaced World Cup-winning captain Hugo Lloris, who retired after Les Bleus' World Cup final defeat to Argentina. Maignan is now the country's vice-captain and was named in the Euro 2024 team of the tournament last summer.
