The family of a Black man killed when eight Ohio officers fired 94 bullets at him after he shot a round out his window during a police chase will receive a $4.8 million settlement from the city of Akron.

A family is settling a wrongful death lawsuit against Ohio police who fired 94 bullets at a Black man during a chase two years ago.

Jayland Walker was shot 46 times by police after he fled law enforcement and fired a bullet out of his car window in 2022.

The family had filed a lawsuit against the Ohio city and its police department after Mr. Walker was fatally shot by eight police officers in 2022.

The family of Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old fatally shot by police in Akron, Ohio in June 2022, has reached a $4.85 million settlement with the city of Akron in a federal lawsuit over Walker’s death.

In a joint statement released Monday, the city announced the settlement would be paid in four installments over the next four years.
