American Airlines Flight 5342 collided midair with a military aircraft over the Potomac River, resulting in the recovery of 40 bodies from 60 passengers. Among the victims were pairs figure skating world champions and a young professional returning from a work trip.

Several members' of the U.S. Figure Skating community were onboard the American Airlines plane that collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk Helicopter over Washington, D.C., the governing body said in a statement.
