Guarding goal in Philadelphia

Rasmus Ristolainen scored in overtime and the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Tuesday night.

PHILADELPHIA -- Rasmus Ristolainen scored with 26 seconds remaining in overtime and the Philadelphia Flyers extended their point streak to six games with a 2-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday.

Rasmus Ristolainen taps in the game-winner to extend the Flyers’ point streak to a season-high six (5-0-1) games.

It wasn’t a winning effort, but given the Detroit Red Wings’ struggles in the City of Brotherly Love, a point is better than nothing. Rasmus Ristolainen’s goal with 30 seconds left in overtime was the  difference.

Patrick Kane just missed on a scoring chance in overtime and the Flyers came rushing down the other end. Philadelphia's Rasmus Ristolainen tapped in a loose puck in the crease after Owen Tippett's drive was stopped by goaltender Alex Lyon, who made the save but the puck lay in the crease.

Joel Farabee’s goal at 5:21 of the second period was the only scoring through two periods. He fired in a backhand shot from the slot as the Red Wings were scrambling in their zone. The Flyers had the game’s only power play and didn’t convert.

The Flyers have gotten plenty familiar with some of their opponents of late. Tuesday night's opponent is one they have faced twice before the holiday break last month, and will close out the season series. The Flyers host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night, the rubber match between the two teams. Game time is 7 p.m.

Ristolainen was the OT hero after a move and a loose puck just trickled by Red Wings goaltender Alex Lyon on a rush and a deke lost by Owen Tippett in the blue paint. They've had their ups, and definitely their downs, but for right now, the Flyers are hanging in there.

A huge key was the Wings' power play, which had so lethal in recent games (power play goals in 10 of their last 11 games). The Wings did score once, with Lucas Raymond scoring his 19th goal, but the Wings couldn't match the two or three power-play goals they had scored six of the last 11 games.
