City Councilmember Mark Squilla said residents in Chinatown saw the apartments above the arena as a "middle finger" to the neighborhood.

A spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that the Philadelphia 76ers scrapped plans to build a $250 million apartment tower above their controversial proposed Center City arena.

A 25-story apartment tower is no longer part of the plans for the proposed 76ers arena coming to Center City, according to a report from the Philadelphia Business Journal. The Philadelphia Sixers originally planned to build the massive $250 million apartment building on the north end of the proposed arena.
