Four overflow cold weather shelters are open across Denver and the city will keep them open through at least 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to Denver’s Department of Housing Stability.

The City of Denver is extending its severe weather shelter activation into next week. Denver's Department of Housing Stability activated its Cold Weather Shelter plan on Dec. 30 and has extended it until at least 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Traffic is expected to be impacted along major highways, with northern Colorado towns even more likely to experience bitter cold conditions.

An arctic airmass will bring bitterly cold air to Colorado beginning Saturday and lasting through Monday night,” NWS forecasters said in a Hazardous Weather Alert.

Skies will remain clear for Denver’s weather overnight awaiting a very mild day tomorrow. FOX31 Pinpoint Weather Team Meteorologist Greg Perez is warning residents to look for an arctic blast to come in from the north starting this weekend.

Denver will see above-average temperatures Thursday, according to Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Greg Perez. An arctic blast over the weekend will lead to several Pinpoint Weather Alert Days due to freezing temperatures and snow.

Denver’s cold weather shelters will be open for another week as frigid weather makes its way across the state.

Sunny skies are back on Wednesday, and comfortable conditions continue. The Denver weather forecast has above-average temperatures by Thursday afternoon.
