When ESPN’s Shams Charania first broke the news of Luka Doncic’s shocking trade from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers last week, the reaction was swift. A large portion of the Mavs fan base made its anger clear with the decision to move on from the 25-year-old international superstar after flipping him for Anthony Davis.

Doncic, who had dragged an otherwise unremarkable Mavericks team through the Western Conference, became the face of their failure.
