A new wildfire was reported today at 10:43 a.m. in Plumas County. Junction Fire has been burning on private land. At this time, the containment status is unknown and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Dirt bike riders discovered human remains near the town of Mabie in Plumas County on Sunday, the Plumas County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) announced. Now, the PCSO believes the remains are that of a Portola man who went missing in December 2023.

Due to the elements and decomposition, a positive identification of the remains cannot be made immediately. There is evidence at the scene suggesting the remains may belong to a Portola resident, Anthony Evans who is a previously reported missing person from December of 2023. The investigation is ongoing.
