Lionel Messi will be competing in the Club World Cup next summer as FIFA handed Inter Miami the host nation spot, sparking a backlash from Major League Soccer fans

Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami has been selected to play in FIFA Club World Cup 2025 held in the United States next summer.

FIFA had not previously announced how the final North and Central American spot in the 2025 Club World Cup would be awarded.

FIFA is expected to try and use Lionel Messi to bolster interest in the 2025 Club World Cup by naming Inter Miami as CONCACAF's final team for the tournament. As hosts of the competition, the United States receives an extra slot.

FIFA is under fire in the United States after it was revealed that Inter Miami will participate in the Club World Cup. Over the weekend, Gianni Infantino confirmed that they would be one of the 32 teams in the tournament,

Adding to their achievements, Inter Miami also qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where they’ll represent the host nation. The Major League Soccer team secured their place as the penultimate club to qualify for the 32-team tournament.
