“Pakistani terrorists, with a view to disrupting peace and stability in Kashmir, cowardly targeted an Army column in general area Butapathri, Baramulla on 24 October 2024, which was carrying soldiers and local porters,” a defence ministry statement said.

Terrorists opened fire on the vehicle in the Bota Pathri area, six kilometres from tourist hotspot Gulmarg in north Kashmir, in the evening, when it was headed for the Nagin post in the Afrawat range.

The latest in a string of violent incidents occurred on October 24 in Gulmarg, where terrorists ambushed two Indian Army trucks, resulting in the deaths of three soldiers and two porters.

The National Conference president also paid tribute to the two porters and the two soldiers killed in Thursday's attack.

Farooq Abdullah said that ongoing violence in Jammu and Kashmir will persist until India and Pakistan improve relations. Referring to a recent ambush in Gulmarg, he urged Pakistan to seek friendship with India and focus on its own issues.

Farooq Abdullah said the attacks will not stop until a solution to this problem is found, adding that he has been witnessing this for 30 years.
