Everything is closed now. Sadly Oakland continues to decline. Vacant stores and restaurants. It’s a ghost town and I don’t know if it will ever be the same.Full review by Greg B

Nice area in Oakland with things to do. They have a movie theater, a bowling alley, bars and restaurants to enjoy. They also have a ferry that will take you to SF.Full review by Leo N

JLS has an annual bike fest/-athon. All the avid bikers I know have been there because Oakland is a very bike friendly place. Lots of long flat trails (including along the waterfront and around Lake Merritt) as well as both gentle and challenging hills.

I agree with the previous comments. Its safe there but I would not wander alone up Broadway, but would stay where the nice restaurants are and the movie theater. There is considerable night life there on weekends and during the daytime on weekends there is a farmers market, the ferry to SF and sometimes art shows outside or boat shows...on a scale of 1-10 I'd say its a 6 for safety at night alone; but as anytime one is out alone, stay alert and don't wander aimlessly to make yourself an easy target for anything untoward.
